Friar's armchair. Spain, 16th century
Friar's armchair. Walnut wood and leather. Spain, 16th century. Armchair with arms and high back of the type known as ‘frailero’, which has studded leather on the seat and upper part of the back, low chambranas, joining the front legs with the back legs and middle chambranas or crossbars (the front one is carved with a relief of floral motifs flanking an empty heraldic shield in tondo) and joining the two front legs and the two back legs.
The front one is carved with a floral relief flanking an empty heraldic coat of arms in tondo) and joining the two front and two rear legs. Single armrests with ribbed fronts. Requires restoration.
Measurements: 65.5 x 53 x 109 cm.
