Santiago Farriols González (Barcelona 1890-1974) Bat
Black, reddish-brown and greyish-brown ink and watercolour on paper. Signed and dated in black pencil in the lower right-hand corner: ‘S. Farriols. G. 914’ (1914).
The reverse shows a schematic drawing of plant and floral decoration in the Art Nouveau style, executed in watercolours in shades of lilac, green and yellow. Also on the reverse are several Arabic numerals in pencil.
Santiago Farriols was a painter and draughtsman from Barcelona with little known work. He obtained a pension in Italy from 1920 onwards to train as a painter. The pictorial subjects he is known to have worked on were religious, portraits and academic works. His expertise in the design and execution of drawings for posters, exlibris and ornamentation led him to work at the Catalan Agricultural Institute of San Isidro, the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and the Salón de Ciento of the Casa de la Ciudad de Barcelona, collaborating with the extensive decorative project of Enric Monserdà i Vidal (Barcelona 1850-1926) for that institution.
Measurements: 151 x 387 mm.
