Pencil on paper. Signed and titled in the lower right-hand corner: ‘F. R. Hidalgo / Joló’.
Measurements: 13.3 x 20.5 cm.
The drawing we are dealing with here must be a work from his youth, both for the subject represented, a view of the bay of Jolo in his native Philippines, and for the proposed chronology itself, 1870-1880, as the artist in the latter year obtained a pension which would take him to Madrid in order to study drawing and painting.
