ANTIQUE JAPAN MEIJI ERA MILITARY WOODBLOCK PRINT
Tsuneshige Miyano, act. 1890s, an original Japanese Meiji era Ukiyo-e military woodblock triptych Three Generals of Empire Departed to the Battle, from the series The First Sino and Japanese War. The triptych depicts Field martial Yamagata, commander in chief, Lieutenant General Nozu, and Lieutenant Colonel Fukushima. Published by Inoue Mohei circa 1894. Battle triptychs were produced in large numbers during the Sino-Japanese (1894 - 1895) and Russo-Japanese wars (1904 - 1905). Such prints idealized the heroism of Japanese troops risking their lives for the emperor. Japanese Ukiyo E Woodblock Prints, Asian Artworks For Wall Decor.
