ROMAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO OF ANTONINUS PIUS IN GOLD RING - Ca. 2nd Century AD.An oval-shaped carnelian intaglio featuring a left-facing portrait of Emperor Antoninus Pius. Antoninus Pius (AD 138-161) was known for his peaceful rule and dedication to public welfare, which included the construction of public works and the support of education. The detailed portrait depicts the emperor's forward gaze, aquiline nose, and abundant beard andhair with a slight wave. His head is crowned with a laurel wreath.
