AMLASH POTTERY JAR
Ca. 1200 - 800 BCAn Amlash hand-built redware pottery jar of spherical form with a circular flat base, a narrow neck, and a vertical rim. A circular line protrudes from the shoulders. The vase is painted with cream slip. Amlash vessels were buried in large megalithic tombs, built by part of the Marlik culture. Despite its proximity to the large Mesopotamian cultures, the geographical barrier of the high Zagros and Elburz Mountains kept it relatively isolated and a very unique ceramic tradition developed there.Size: 130mm x 120mm; Weight: 220gProvenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market since the 1970s.
