Ca. AD 1200 - 1300.A Mamluk openwork incense burner of compressed globular shape resting on a splayed circular foot, rising to broad, rounded shoulders and a wide circular rim. The main openwork, decorative register around the body features interlocking circular medallions with intricate knotwork and foliate sprays. The rim chased with a fretwork band with roundels (beaded motif), with a band of shallow benedictory Kufic calligraphy around the shoulders. Size: 235mm x 165mm; Weight: 1.3kgProvenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the UK / International art markets. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
