A Silver Havdalah Plate, Hanau Germany c.1890


Ceremonial plate, circular form with two C-shaped handles made in  baroque style, floral ornaments. Rim has repoussé and chased vine with grape decoration and Hebrew inscription which reads "Mitzvat hashem barah meiras einayim ". Which translates to "The commandment[s] of Hashem are clear, pure, shining; [they] enlighten the eyes" Center of plate engraved with further flower vine and grape decorations.  Embossed in center with a Star of David and Yiddish inscription  that reads, "Gut Voch und Gut Yahr".  Which translates to "Happy week and a  happy year." Standing on four legs made in similar style of the handles.


Great condition. Marked on rim by handle.
