The Lag BaOmer coin commissioned by the Rebbe in 1991 commemorates the holiday of Lag BaOmer, which is traditionally associated with the anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, a prominent sage and author of the Zohar, a foundational text of Kabbalah.
In 1990, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, known as the Rebbe of the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement, commissioned a special coin to mark Lag BaOmer. This coin was likely designed to commemorate the spiritual and mystical significance of the day within Jewish tradition, particularly in the context of Kabbalistic teachings
