Brodsky, I.A. "Lullaby of cod cape". 1975. Typscript copy; 29x21 cm.
Description:
Typescript copy of Joseph Brodsky's poems with the numbering inscribed by his hand and pencil marks made by Lyudmila Stern.
Information:
Brodsky commented on the creation of "Lullaby" in an interview with Peter Weil: "Cape Cod is here, in general, by accident. The poem is written for the 200th anniversary of the United States. I wanted to celebrate this wonderful event, it was a pleasure for me to do that. Would I write it now? If I were 300 years old, then yes. I actually like poems for the occasion. I suppose that I could have prospered quite a lot in the fatherland, because there are always big dates and anniversaries there. But here you just don't recall it at all. And an inscription to A. B. is to Andrei (Andrey Basman - the son of Joseph Brodskiy and Marianne Basmanova). "
