David Daoud (Lebanon, Beirut, 1970)Le Jardin d’Eden, 2023Oil on canvas Mis: 80 X 80 cm
Daoud and his family left Lebanon in 1978 and moved to Paris, where he received his artistic training as a sculptor and painter. The artist began his career as a sculptor, but soon switched to painting, which became his main form of expression, becoming very well known internationally, having received numerous awards and prizes both in France and abroad.Although his expressionist style is often characterised by an ‘instinctual’ rendering of figures that seem tangled in themselves, in this canvas the characters have turned bodies that barely emerge from the dark, tortured background, an echo of the sin they have just committed. The reference in this canvas is also religious and everything seems to symbolise the Dies Irae. David Daoud's works can be found in several collections, including: the Institute du Monde Arabe in Paris, the Museum of Prehistory in Beirut, the Town Hall of Marines, Vexin (France) and that of Isle-Adam (France).
