A WHITE GLAZED AND GOLD-RESTORED PORCELAIN HANDLED BOWL
Korea, Joseon dynasty, late 15th century
The bowl with circular section and handles with shaped upper section, one with a gilt lacquer restoration.
5 x 9,5 cm
Provenance: ambassador Francesco Rausi.
This bowl is an exemple of early porcelain production in Korea.
The presence of the gilt lacquer restoration - very popular in Japan where it is known by the term kintsugi - is certainly an added value, testimony to the attention paid to this object.
Similar bowls are in the National Museum of Korea in Seoul (inv. Sinsu 3428), in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, (inv. 50-1038) and in the Seattle Art Museum (inv. 99.21).
