EIGHT INK AND COLOURS ON PAPER CERIMONIAL DAOIST PAINTING
Yao, 19th-20th century
Each of the eight paintings depicting Daoist divinities, many of them accompanied by cartouche with the name of the deity, each with an inscription to the back.
118 x 46 cm each

The Yao are an ethnic group located between southern China, northern Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. One of the most characteristic artistic manifestations of this populous community are the paintings linked to the Daoist cult (mien fang), icons of immediate visual impact that are central to the ceremonies dedicated to the salvation of one's soul and to protection against evil spirits.
