Lapsley early in World War II, was the pilot of a Royal Air Force Gloster Gladiator based on Malta. Later in the war, he would serve as the commander of the 125th Spitfire Wing and he would eventually become an Air Marshal. John H Lapsey, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Grandy, GCB, GCVO, KBE, DSO, KStJa senior officer in the Royal Air Force.
