As the name suggests, Tahitian South Sea pearls are farmed in French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, the Micronesian Islands and, to some extent, in Japan, Thailand and The Philippines.
- Tahitian pearls most often have a dark green body color and peacock overtones (the shimmery colors of peacock feathers).
- Tahitian pearls have an average size of 9mm to 14mm but some rare gems, larger than 20mm, have been found.
- "Black" Tahitian pearls aren't actually black. They could be blue, purple, green, brown, silver -- but never a true black.
