Br. Jacinto de Deus (1612-1681), born in Macau, professed in 1631 in the seraphic Province of Madre de Deus in Goa. He learned Scholastic sciences with application. He occupied the highest positions in his religion, including Custodian of the Province, Provincial, Guardian of the Convent of Madre de Deus in Goa and General Commissioner. He was also a deputy of the Inquisition of Goa, which he took office on October 30, 1671. This work of his is a true chronicle of the Province of Madre de Deus of Goa and was published posthumously by the provincial Fr. Amaro de Santo António. The work contains precious information about China, Macau, Cambodia and Ceylon. It begins with the arrival of the Franciscans in Goa in 1540, providing information about Cochin, Damão and Diu, followed by a description of the Chinese Empire that includes extensive notes on architecture, navigation, language, government, industry, etc. It also has notes on Mozambique. Throughout the work you will find news about Churches and missionary activities of some Franciscans in Goa and the Asian continent. VERY RARE AND VALUABLE.
