A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING THE OTHER OF GOD OF THE PASSION Russian, school of Romanov Borisoglebsk, circa 1800 Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. Executed in great detail, the Mother of God wearing a blue tunic and a red mantle, her had covered with a veil, the hems richly decorated with gold chrysography and simulated gem stones. The Christ Child dressed in a blue tunica and an orange coloured mantle, similarly jewelled and highlighted in gold, Christ holding his Mother’s hand while looking up at the angels flying towards Him bearing the instruments of Passion. Minor areas of retouching. 90 x 70.5 cm.
