A MONUMENTAL DOUBLE-SIDED ICON SHOWING THE TRANSFIGURATION OF CHRIST AND ST. NICHOLAS OF MYRA Russian, Abramtsevo Colony, early 20th century Oil on wood panel. The background with etched tracery design, the border emulating contemporary enamelwork. A finely painted image of the Transfiguration depicting Christ at top center on mount Tabor with the Old Testament Prophets Elijah and Moses on either side, and below the Apostles John, Peter, and James look on in awe bathed in a glowing light. Minor losses. 74 x 57.8 cm.
