IKONE MIT DEM MANDYLION
Origin: Griechenland, um 1600
Technique: Einzeltafel, Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, Nimbus vergoldet
Dimension: 24,5 x 27,7 cm
AN ICON SHOWING THE MANDYLION Greek, circa 1600 Tempera on wood panel. The face of Christ with a circular, pripartite halo imprinted on a hanging cloth. The facial features defined by ample striations, bright on the forehead and around the eyes, and dark for the beard, the parted hair terminating in curling locks. The texture of the cloth rendered through the sharp folds, the back of the Mandylion painted red with a gilt embroidered hem. Partially restored, the borders later added. 24.5 x 27.7 cm.
