BEDEUTENDE UND SEHR GROSSE PENDULE MIT AMORETTEN

Origin: Russland, St. Petersburg, Felix Chopin, Mitte 19. Jh.

Technique: Bronze, gegossen, zisliert und vergoldet

Dimension: H. 55 cm

AN IMPORTANT AND VERY LARGE ORMOLU CLOCK WITH PUTTI Russian, St. Petersburg, Felix Chopin, mid 19th Finely cast with depictions of putti playing with dragons. The enamel dial signed ‘Fx CHOPIN ST. PETERSBOURG’. 55 cm high. Sohn des Pariser Gießers Julien Chopin. 1838 kam Chopin came from France and was the son of the Parisian foundryman Julien Chopin. In 1838 he came to St. Petersburg and in 1840 took over the Guerin foundry, which was facing bankruptcy. He succeeded in turning the foundry into a sought-after manufacturer of bronzes of all kinds. From 1845 he supplied the chandeliers made of gilt bronze (ormolu) for the halls in the Great Kremlin Palace of the Moscow Kremlin. Chopin exhibited his products at the Centennial Exhibition in 1876, where he showed a monumental chandelier for 100 candles made of ormolu and porcelain. In Petersburg he was called upon to decorate church buildings and aristocratic palaces. Stylistically, he preferred the Second Rococo for his works. He was a purveyor to the tsar’s court and supplied his court with a large number of bronzes, some of which were also worked for the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory in St Petersburg in order to be combined with its products.
