A RARE AND LARGE ICON SHOWING THE MOTHER OF GOD OF JAROSLAVL Russian, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg with cloth backing. Shown half-length in sombre colours, the Mother of God holds the Christ Child to her left shoulder, her left hand rests on his back. He embraces his Mother with his right hand on her chin. Six selected saints on the borders, David and Solomon among them. The background stripped to gesso, minimally restored. 42.7 x 33.8 cm.
