A MONUMENTAL ICON SHOWING THE ENTHRONED CHRIST Greek, 16th century Tempera on wood panel. Executed on a gold ground. Seated on a backless throne carved with figures of cherubs and supplemented with a red cushion and similar suppedaneum, blessing with his right hand and displaying the inscribed Gospel Book. Christ’s serene face framed by parted hair arranged over his left shoulder, his features rendered with dark colours highlighted with bright striations, his chiton rendered as usual in red, but his himation unusually painted in deep green, the drapery emphaised with cream highlights.
