Technique: Verbund zweier Bretter mit zwei Rückseiten-Sponki (verloren). Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, Goldgrund, Rand vergoldet

A RARE AND LARGE ICON SHOWING ‘CHRIST ONLY BEGOTTEN SON’ Russian, Old Believer’s Workshop, 19th century Tempera on wood panel. The background and border made of gold. This icon illustrates the second antiphon of the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom which begins ‘Only Begotten Son and Word of God’. Godfather at the top. Two flying angels with the sun and the moon at his sides. Christ in a circle supported by angels below. ‘Dont weep for me mother’ below. At the left and right side two standing angels. Below the overcoming over death, an angel who is punching the devil and the death riding on a horse at the left. Minor losses. 43.8 x 38 cm.
