Figural match holder, Germany late 19th c., chrome plated iron. Firebird? with hinges on the feet. At the tip of the beak a small fork for poking a single match from the container below. At the front of the container a rubbing surface for phosphor woods, the back of the bird flattened for another rubbing surface for safety woods: thus an object of transition between these two types of kindling. In front of the container a small bowl for depositing burnt woods, 9 x 20 x 12 cm.
