PARK KEITH: (1892-1975) New Zealand Air Chief Marshal of World War II who played a significant role during the Battle of Britain. D.S., K R Park, Major, in pencil, one page, 4to, n.p. (France), 2nd July 1918. The partially printed document, completed in typescript, is a Combat Report (headed Combats in the Air) relating to an aerial operation by 2nd Lieutenant E. Allingham (pilot) and 2nd Lieutenant P. A. Clayson (observer) flying in a Bristol Fighter C.962 aircraft, the narrative stating, in full, 'While on O.P. over Harbonnieres, the formation did a quick turn. Our machine, the rear one, unfortunately fell into a spin. Before we could retain height, we were dived on by 4 E[nemy] A[ircraft], which drove us back to the Line. I singled out one E.A. and put 200 rounds into it from rear gun. The E.A. almost immediately commenced sending out volumes of smoke, and then commenced going down, falling from side to side, in 'falling-leaf' fashion. The crash could not be observed, owing to thick evening haze, and the white smoke coming from E.A. almost obscured it.' Signed by Park at the foot as Commander of 48 Squadron. Three file holes to the left edge and a few extensive tears to the right edge, not affecting the text or signature. G
