MACMICHAEL HAROLD: (1882-1969) British Colonial Administrator who served as High Commissioner of Palestine, High Commissioner for Trans-Jordan 1938-44 during World War II. MacMichael was blamed for sending at least 768 Jewish refugees aboard MV Sturma to their deaths in February 1942. Seven unsuccessful attempts were made to assassinate MacMichael during his sojourn in Palestine. A 9 x 10.5 engraving of MacMichael by the artist Hermann Struck, the image depicting the High Commissioner in a profile head and shoulders pose. Signed ('H A MacMichael') by MacMichael in pencil with his name alone to the lower right corner of the image and also signed in pencil by Hermann Struck to the lower left corner of the border and numbered 9 of 50.
