9 Japanische Druckschnitte von Utagawa Hiroshige
9 Japanese prints by Utagawa Hiroshige
Japan, Edo period, 1797-1858. Colored woodblock print on washi ( Japanese paper), sign. Artist: Hiroshige ANDO (1797-1858), from the series: "Tokaido-Gojusan tsugi no uchi" (The 53 Stations of Tokaido) (c.1850-1851). Sheet size: ca. 23,5 x 17,8 cm, glued on paper. 9 sheets, sheet no. 3. 16, 19, 27, 24, 33, 36, 45, 53. Sheet no. 36 "Akasaka" is a very famous work of his. Condition: browned, loss of color, some sheets with wormholes, corner damaged. The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido in the Hoeido edition (1833-1834) are a series created by Utagawa Hiroshige after his first journey along the Tokaido in 1832. The Hoeido edition of the Tokaido is Hiroshige's best-known work and the best-selling ukiyo-e prints in Japan. It was published shortly after Hokusai's series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" and established this new main theme of ukiyo-e: the landscape print or fukei-ga with a special focus on "famous views".
