*Highlight* 1856-d Dahlonega TOP POP! Liberty $5 Graded
***Auction Highlight*** 1856-d Dahlonega TOP POP! Gold Liberty Half Eagle $5 Graded ms64 By SEGS. 1856-d $5 Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle ms64 SEGS. The only known die pair for the Dahlonega Mint half eagle coinage of 1856 saw service for 19,786 coins. Hoarding, melting, and attrition over the period of 160 years have reduced the surviving population to only about 200 coins. Perhaps two dozen survive in Mint State grades, mostly at the low end of the range, from a South Carolina hoard. Examples such as this highly lustrous MS64 piece are elusive. This piece has brilliant light yellow gold luster with a few scattered surface marks on each side. The central obverse and reverse details are a trifle weak. Overall, an important Dahlonega half eagle with strong eye appeal. Tied for finest known. We have attached an ms62 and an ms64 for your compasrison. It is worth noting that no coin above ms62 has come to auction in over a decade. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
