1864 Three Dollars Confederate States Loan Interest Note Grades Select CU. In order to fund their war effort, the newly formed Confederacy issued bonds to their citizens in 1861. These bonds included a series of coupons intended to be turned in individually for the periodic interest return on the bond, which are hand-numbered and hand-signed. These are a rare paper artifact of the Civil War.
