The medal is bronze, it is 1 1/2 inch in diameter and in uncirculated condition but it has spots. This race is held on the 4th of July in Seward, Alaska and is approximately 3.1 miles long. The first informal race was held in 1908 between a bartender and a geologist, the bartender won. The first organized race was in 1915. The obverse shows a runner with a mountain in the background.
