Long Letter by the Rabbis of Safed Headed by Av Beit Din Rabbi Raphael Zilberman to Rabbi Shmuel Salant – 1895
A long letter (three large pages) about a Gett. Sent from Safed in 1895 by the rabbis of the city, headed by Rabbi Raphael Zilberman, to the Rabbi of Jerusalem, Rabbi Shmuel Salant.
The letter, which was written by a scribe, is signed by Rabbi Raphael Zilberman (twice), Rabbi Yitzchak ben Rabbi Yisrael Domatz and Rabbi Natan ben Rabbi Yehuda. Stamp of the Badatz and stamps of Rabbi Zilberman.
Rabbi Raphael Zilberman (1839-1918) served as the Chief Rabbi of the Ashkenazic community of Safed. He was known for his wisdom and greatness even among the Turkish, who titled him "Chacham Pasha". He also served as the emissary of the Rebbe of Boyan during the lightening of the bonfire on the tomb of Rashbi in Meiron on Lag Ba'Omer.
