Carpet – Bezalel, circa the 1920's
Wool carpet of the carpet workshop of Bezalel. The Land of Israel, circa the 1920's.
At its center, structures of the Old City of Jerusalem. On the sides, a pair of seven-branched Menorahs.
On the lower part, a verse from the book of Exodus is embroidered: "Vayemaleh Otoh Ruach Elohim Bechochma Bi'Tvunah U'Ve'Da'at U'Ve'Chol Melachah" (and the spirit of God has filled him with wisdom, and understanding and knowledge and all manner of artistic work).
Around, stars-of-David with the embroidered words: "Zion", "Bezalel Jerusalem".
