HISTORY - CAVAIGNAC Louis (1802 - 1857) - Document signed - General of Algeria - Joined the army in 1824. Governor General of Algeria, he was elected Minister of War in the provisional government of the Second Republic. On 24 June 1848, he was given full executive powers by decree of the National Assembly and on 28 June he was appointed President of the Council of Ministers. In December, he lost the presidential elections to Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte. Document signed, dated 09.08.1848: ”…le Roi des Belges a nommé M. François Langer Consul de Belgique au Havre et ordonne à toutes les autorités administratives et judiciaires de le reconnaître en qualité de Consul…”. - This lot is under temporary import in the UK. 5% VAT is due if delivered in the UK.
