Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Wine Jug Historism
brown stamp mark 1874-1918, embossed number 6. and 32., fine stoneware with celadon and cream underglaze painting, baluster-shaped jug with handle, spout and luxuriant relief overlays of vine tendrils with birds, three large figural cartouches (Noah with vine, Germania, King David at the harp), circulating banner "Wer nicht liebt Wein, Weib, Gesang - der bleibt ein Narr sein lebenlang. Wohl bekommt's!" and a pewter lid, neck with hairline cracks at the base of the handle, otherwise in good condition, h 33.5 cm.
