Jacob De Braekeleer, Nymphs Bathing
circa 1900, indistinctly signed, terracotta coloured, on an oval rock base on rich drapery and beside a large flower two young nude women sitting, holding an amphora or urn and playing with a small turtle, probably partially retouched, minimal paint defects, h 44 cm. Artist info: also Jacques, Jakob, Jaak, Jean and Jan, Flemish sculptor (1823 Antwerp to 1906 Borgerhout), came from a well-known Flemish family of artists, was trained at the Royal Atheneum of Antwerp, then studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under Gilbert Van Hool, among others, travelled to Paris for studies and learned there from Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse and Francisque Joseph Duret, later held a teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, there are some important works in public space in Antwerp.
