Max Brüning, Girl with Stockings
A naked girl sitting on a sofa, dressed only in stockings, looking seductively at the viewer, watercolour etching in reddish brown, printed on rolled China paper, signed in pencil "Max Brüning" on the right and inscribed "Original-Radierung" on the left, here print after erasing the inscription "Max Brüning Nordfrankreich 1916" on the lower right, slightly stained, framed under passepartout and behind glass, dimensions approx. 11,7 x 16,5 cm. Artist's info: German painter, commercial artist, designer and etcher (1887 Delitzsch to 1968 Lindau/Lake Constance), studied from 1902 at the Leipzig Academy under Alois Kolb, later pupil of Peter Halm in Munich, 1913 study trip to France, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Asia Minor and Turkey, from 1914 master pupil of Franz von Stuck at the Munich Academy, during World War I drawing teacher of the crown prince. During World War I he was drawing teacher to Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, 1918-23 he worked in Leipzig, 1923 he moved to Berlin, his studio became a much-noticed attraction, he owned one of the richest art collections of Asian provenance, it became a meeting place for German and foreign personalities from film, art, sports and politics, after his marriage in 1935 he lived for a short time at the Baltic Sea and in Oberstdorf, from 1938 in Igls near Innsbruck, 1943 destruction of approx. 300 etching plates by bombing in Berlin, 1945 expulsion as German citizen from Austria and settlement in Lindau on Lake Constance, in the 1950s study trips to Spain and Ticino, 1963 traffic accident and end of artistic work, source: Vollmer, Dressler, matriculation register of the Munich Academy and Internet.
