Alexander Wolfgang, attr., Abstract Composition
Non-figurative arrangement with strong black contouring, backed with silver foil, reverse painting on glass, circa 1960, on the reverse of the frame probably signature in biros "A. Wolfgang" and several times the monogram of the artist, framed behind glass, folding dimensions approx. 19.5 x 13.5 cm. Artist's info: Germ. Painter, draughtsman and graphic artist (1894 Arnstadt - 1970 Gera), from 1908 in Gera, commercial apprenticeship, 1913-18 military service, during the military service in France he turned to painting, 1919-30 commercial activity as chocolate wholesaler in Gera and at the same time intensive, autodidactic occupation with painting, undertook study trip to France, influenced by his brother-in-law Otto Dix as well as Alfred Ahner and Kurt Günther, Member of the late Dadaist association "pro pro bru (produktive-prominente-brummochsen)", from 1930 freelance painter, member of the Reichsverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands and the Thüringer Ausstellerverband Bildender Künstler, 1942-45 war service, 1945 initiator of the Künstlergilde Gera and its director until 1950, member of the Verband Bildender Künstler (VBK) of the GDR, here at times member of the jury and board in the district of Gera, 1961 honoured with the art prize of the city of Gera, active in Gera-Untermhaus , source: Dressler, Vollmer, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR" and website of the city of Gera.
