Portrait Herzog Christian von Sachsen-Weißenfels
High-oval bust portrait of the corpulent ruler with wig and ermine-trimmed coat over his armour as well as the Knight of Honour's Cross and the Breast Star together with the light blue shoulder ribbon of the Danish Order of the Elephant, which Christian received in 1713, the present portrait strongly resembles the epitaph at arms of Duke Christian of Saxe-Weissenfels (1682 Weißenfels to 1736 Sangerhausen), which is kept in the St. Ulrich Church in Sangerhausen. Ulrichkirche Sangerhausen. As the fourth duke of the secondary dynasty of Saxony-Weissenfels, the duke came to power in the small Saxony-Weissenfels region after the death of his brother Duke Johann Georg (1677-1712) on 23 February 1712.1712, he was considered a strict Protestant and tried to distinguish himself as a counterpart to his cousin August the Strong (1670-1733), who had converted to Catholicism, in the fold enclosed article with illustration of the epitaph of arms, low impasto painting, oil on canvas and oval stretcher, 1st half of the 18th century, unsigned, craquelure, painting ground wavy, somewhat in need of restoration, modern framed in plain oak moulding, dimensions of fold approx. 77 x 64 cm.
