Picture of a middle-aged man in a grey-violet suit sitting on a chair in the interior, according to the previous owner probably depicting the cousin of Gerd Böhme, glazed, neo-objective painting, oil on canvas and stretcher, c. 1930, inconspicuously signed on the reverse at the bottom of the stretcher "G. Böhme", craquelure, retouching, somewhat in need of restoration, provenance according to previous owner: estate exhibition at the Galerie Kühl Dresden, from this exhibition the "Portrait of Hilde Böhme" from 1927 was acquired for the Dresden State Art Collections, unframed, dimensions approx. 96 x 73.5 cm. Artist's info: Germ. Painter and graphic artist (1899 Naußlitz near Dresden until 1978 Dresden-Dölzschen), from 1915 apprenticeship as a lithographer, 1919-23 pupil at the Dresden school of arts and crafts, 1923-29 studied at the Dresden academy under Richard Müller, Otto Gussmann, Otto Hettner and Otto Dix, from 1929 freelance in Dresden, 1932-33 member of the 'Dresden Secession 1932', after 1933 ostracised as 'degenerate', 1937 confiscation and destruction of his painting 'Tiger Head' from the Gemäldegalerie Dresden, participation in World War II, destruction of numerous early works. After 1945 he worked as a freelance artist in Dresden-Dölzschen. He was a member of the Verband Bildender Künstler (VBK) of the GDR, represented in the Nationalgalerie Berlin, the Lindenau-Museum Altenburg and the Galerie "Neue Meister" Dresden, source: AKL, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR", "Dix-Schüler.
