Self-portrait of the artist in a white working coat, with brushes and painting materials in the background, barely impasto, realistic portrait painting, oil on plywood, signed and dated lower right "A. Tröger [19]37", minimal damage to the surface of the painting layer in the area of the hair, somewhat in need of cleaning, framed, folding dimensions approx. 41 x 38 cm. Artist's info: German graphic artist, landscape and still life painter (1898 Langenhessen to 1974 Werdau), first apprenticeship as a painter, artistically mostly self-taught, military service in World War I, after 1918 active as a decorative painter, from 1927 exhibitions in Zwickau, Berlin and Dresden, from 1936 freelance in Werdau, 1938 trip to Italy, 1943-46 military service in World War II and war captivity in Oldenburg. World War II and prisoner of war in Oldenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, with Wolfgang Berndt, Heinz Fleischer, Karl-Heinz Schuster, Albert Schwarz, Erich Schulz and Karl Michel member of the "Gruppe 1950", from 1951 lecturer at the painting and drawing school in Zwickau, at the same time company contract with the road haulage company "Schwarze Pumpe" Hoyerswerda, undertook further study trips to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, to Franconia, East Prussia, Thuringia, Bohemia, the Ore Mountains and Lusatia, member of the Görlitz State Association for Fine Arts and the Leipzig Art Cooperative, honoured with the Hermann Illgen Foundation Prize, active in Werdau/Saxony , source: Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Eisold "Künstler in der DDR", "Blankenheimer Museumsblätter Nr. 15" and Frank Weiß "Malerei im Vogtland".
