Summery Thuringian mountain landscape with view from a hill with cleared forest to the Obere Patschmühle of the municipality Möckern near Stadtroda in the Saale-Holzland district, in the centre the silhouette of the Leuchtenburg is visible on the horizon, matter-of-fact landscape painting, mixed technique (watercolour, gouache over pencil) on toned paper, dated, signed and titled "6. Aug. [19]34 Otto Weigel - Obere Patschmühle - Blick auf die Leuchtenburg", framing label Leipzig on the reverse, somewhat browned, stained and with light margins, originally framed behind glass, folding dimensions approx. 26 x 49.5 cm. Artist info: Germ. Painter, draughtsman, illustrator, ex-libris artist and graphic artist (1890 Theißen until 1945 Leipzig), first apprenticeship as chromolithographer, studied at the Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade Leipzig under Alois Kolb, from 1911 studied at the Academy in Munich under Peter von Halm, undertook study trips to Holland, Belgium and Sweden, then teacher at the Gaudig School in Leipzig, 1929-31 teacher at the Thomas School, 1937-45 teacher for study drawing, lettering and sign painting at the Leipzig School of Arts and Crafts and at the same time teacher at the Journeyman's and Master Craftsman's School, member of the Leipzig Artists' Association, was in charge of the Great Leipzig Art Exhibition, active in Leipzig, Source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Dressler, Matrikel der Münchner Akademie, Camphausen "Die Leipziger Kunstgewerbeschule" and Wikipedia.
