View of a mountainous landscape and a sitting cat with its gaze directed towards the viewer, chalk lithograph/colour lithograph on paper, one work signed and dated "Ast (19)47" on the stone, each stamped on the reverse "Nachlass Prof. Schaefer-Ast *7.1.1890 +15.9.1951" No. "014" and signature on the reverse, slight signs of age, partly slightly browned, sheet dimensions max. approx. 50 x 70,5 cm. Artist's info: also Albert-Schäfer-Ast, German draughtsman and caricaturist (1890 Barmen to 1951 Weimar), apprenticeship as a sculptor, 1906-11 studied at the Düsseldorf school of arts and crafts, worked for various magazines, took part in World War I, was dismissed by the National Socialists as an artist. Participated in World War I, classified as "degenerate" by the National Socialists and partially banned from working and exhibiting, worked again under certain conditions from the mid-1930s, lost his flat in a bombing raid on Berlin in 1943, moved to Prerow on the Darß, worked again as a caricaturist for the Ulenspiegel from 1946, appointed professor at the State Academy of Architecture and Fine Arts in Weimar, Source: Vollmer, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR" and Wikipedia.
