View of the road to the St. Gotthard Pass with the second, so-called "Devil's Bridge" built in 1820-30 over the Reuss River in the gorge called Schöllenen between Göschenen and Andermatt in the Swiss canton of Uri, Wikipedia writes "... Like his father, he was enthusiastic about the alpine world and initially followed his father's artistic example as a painter of high mountain depictions. ...", finely captured landscape painting in restrained colours, watercolour, c. 1910, signed lower left "E. Harrison Compton", on the mount inscribed lower left "Devil's Bridge" and on the right "St. Gotthard", framed behind glass and mount, mount approx. 24 x 19 cm. Artist info: GermanEnglish landscape and architectural painter as well as illustrator (1881 Feldafing at Lake Starnberg until 1960 Feldafing), pupil of his father Edward Theodore Compton and of the School of Arts and Crafts in London, afterwards return to Bavaria, undertook study trips through Tyrol, Upper Italy, Germany and England, member of the Munich Artists' Association, among others he arranged the exhibitions in the Glaspalast Munich, temporarily working in Potsdam and Würzburg, active in Munich and Feldafing at Lake Starnberg, Source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Bruckmann "Münchner Maler des 19./20th century", Dressler and Wikipedia.
