My main theme is the examination of the great themes of painting, such as love and death, the question of where from and where to, the most diverse themes of religion, always oscillating between hope and doubt, resistance and resignation. ...", oil on cardboard, artist's monogram "S [im Kreis]" and dated "[19]78" at lower right, typewritten label ""Einsamer Weg" Bernd Steinwendner 1978" on the reverse, framed (bumped), folded dimensions approx. 19 x 23.5 cm. Artist info: also used the pseudonym "Bernstein", German-Austrian painter, graphic artist, artistAustrian painter, graphic artist, commercial artist, stamp designer and restorer (1939 Chemnitz to 2022 Frankenberg Ortstei Hausdorf?), son of an Austrian father, 1957 Abitur in Karl-Marx-Stadt, because of his Austrian citizenship he was not admitted to university, 1957-60 apprenticeship as graphic draughtsman at DEWAG Karl-Marx-Stadt and worked in the profession until 1967, parallel autodidactic further education in painting and drawing, from 1968 freelance in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz), member of the "Galerie Oben", from 1967 member of the Verband Bildender Künstler (VBK) of the GDR, from 1990 member of the Bundesverband Bildender Künstler, the Sächsischer Künstlerbund and the Chemnitzer Künstlerbund, active Karl-Marx-Stadt/Chemnitz and from 1992 in Frankenberg/Orteil Hausdorf in Saxony, Source: Eisold "Künstler in der DDR", Wikipedia, obituary in the Freie Presse.
