summery rocky river meadow landscape under a loosely cloudy sky, impasto landscape painting, partly in palette knife technique, oil on painting cardboard, c. 1890, signed lower left "Chevallier", on the reverse further landscape study, on the reverse a modern note with unverified attribution to Henri Chevallier, framed in a gold stucco frame with brass frame label "Chevallier", folding dimensions c. 31.5 x 40 cm. Artist's info: actually Claude-François-Henri Chevallier, fr. Draughtsman and landscape painter (1808 or 1809 Lyon/La Croix-Rousse until 1893 Lyon), pupil of Antoine Berjon and Augustin Alexandre Thierriat at the École des beaux-arts de Lyon, afterwards technical draughtsman in a Lyon factory, due to illness convalescent in Switzerland, here he turned to landscape painting, 1839-42 he worked for Nicolas Viktor Fonville in Lyon, afterwards he studied in Paris, afterwards he worked as a freelance landscape painter in Lyon and from 1846 in southern France, from 1845 he painted landscapes for the Lyon Salon and from 1859 for the Paris Salon, he worked in Lyon, Queller: Thieme-Becker, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", AKL and Bénèzit.
