View from the shore across a frozen lake to a castle in front of a sun shrouded in haze and a frozen lake with people against the backdrop of two windmills, atmospheric landscape depictions in finely graded colours, oil on mahogany panel, c. 1860-70, each signed lower right "Albert Zimmermann" and three stars, on the wooden panels partly illegible or cut stamp "A. Chramosta Zur Stadt Düsseldorf Wien ..." on the reverse. A. Chramosta Zur Stadt Düsseldorf Wien ...", minimally soiled and varnish slightly yellowed, framed as pendants (somewhat bumped), folding dimensions approx. 18.5 x 50 cm. Artist's info: actually Albert August Zimmermann, Germ. Landscape painter (1808 Zittau to 1888 Munich), son of the Zittau town musician Karl Friedrich August Zimmermann, first a musician himself, around 1825 autodidactic turn to painting, 1830-31 briefly at the Dresden academy, pursued autodidactic studies in Dresden and undertook study trips to the Erzgebirge and Saxon Switzerland, from 1833 further education in Munich, here founded a private painting school, 1854-59 appointed professor at the Academy in Milan, 1860-73 professor at the Academy in Vienna, 1869 honoured with the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order, active in Hacking near Vienna, from 1876 in Hellbrunn near Salzburg and from 1885 resident in Munich, Source: Thieme-Becker, Nagler, Wikipedia and Internet.
