2. Hälfte 19. Jh., signiert Eduard Müller: aus Coburg. Rom., Marmor, Jüngling mit weinbekränztem Haupt, auf postamentartigem Marmorsockel, ein Weinblatt bestoßen, H 51 cm.
Künstlerinfo: deutscher Bildhauer (1828 Hildburghausen bis 1895 Rom), absolvierte eine Lehre in der Hofküche und modellierte autodidaktisch in seiner Freizeit, arbeitete in München, Paris und Antwerpen, ab 1850 Studium der Bildhauerei an der Akademie in Antwerpen und Tätigkeit als Portraitbildhauer, ab 1852 in Brüssel, ab 1857 in Rom, Auftragsarbeit für den Prinzen von England (Psyche in Marmor), bekanntestes Werk ist der Prometheus, beklagt von den Okeaniden (1872-1879) in Marmor für die Nationalgalerie Berlin, später verkleinerte Abbilder in Gips und Bronze durch Gladenbeck, die in seiner Heimatstadt Coburg, im Germanischen Nationalmuseum sowie in der Berliner Alten Nationalgalerie, war Professor und Mitglied der Akademie San Luca in Rom, der Berliner Akademie und der Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, Ehrenmitglied der Akademie sowie Ehrenbürger der Stadt Coburg. Artist info: German sculptor (1828 Hildburghausen to 1895 Rome), completed an apprenticeship in the court kitchen and modelled autodidactically in his spare time, worked in Munich, Paris and Antwerp, from 1850 studied sculpture at the Academy in Antwerp and worked as a portrait sculptor, from 1852 in Brussels, from 1857 in Rome, commissioned work for the Prince of England (Psyche in marble), best known work is the Prometheus, lamented by the Okeanids (1872-1879) in marble for the National Gallery in Berlin, later scaled-down effigies in plaster and bronze by Gladenbeck, in his hometown Coburg, in the Germanic National Museum as well as in the Old National Gallery in Berlin, was professor and member of the Academy San Luca in Rome, the Berlin Academy and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, honorary member of the Academy as well as honorary citizen of the city of Coburg.
