Willy Knoop, "Montreux am Genfer See"
sommerlicher Blick über die Dächer mondäner Uferbebauung in Montreux, mit Fernsicht über den Genfer See, auf die imposanten Berge der Savoyer Alpen, pastose Malerei mit breitem Pinselduktus, Öl auf Hartfaserplatte, links oben fragmentarische Signatur und Datierung "Knoop [19]63", rückseitig originales frz. Künstleretikett "Willy Knoop Büsum - »Montreux am Lac Lémann [sic. - eigentlich: lac Léman, dt. Genfer See] Oel", stärkere Malschichtablösung und -verluste, restaurierungsbedürftig, im ca. 12 cm breiten Designerrahmen der Rahmungswerkstatt "Christiane Berg ... Hamburg" gerahmt, Falzmaße ca. 81,5 x 100,5 cm. Künstlerinfo: dt. Maler und Aquarellist (1888 Lütjenburg bis 1966 Hamburg-Wellingsbüttel), zunächst Ausbildung zum Schreiner, künstlerisch Autodidakt, ab 1922 Mitglied der Künstlergruppe "Die Barke" in Oldenburg, ab 1928 in Hamburg als expressionistischer Künstler freischaffend tätig, Mitglied der Hamburgischen Sezession, dabei Kontakt zu Erich Hartmann, Willem Grimm, Karl Kluth und Fritz Kronenberg, 1937 wurde Knoop aus der Liste der bildenden Künstler gestrichen und erhielt Ausstellungsverbot, Emigration nach Belgrad und Reisen nach Jugoslawien und Griechenland, 1938 Umzug nach Wien, 1944 Ausstellungseröffnung in Graz, die noch am selben Tag von der Gestapo geschlossen wurde, 1946 Rückkehr nach Hohwacht, Amt Lütjenburg und Wiederaufnahme der Malerei, ab 1949 auf Ausstellungen in London, Manchester und Edinburgh vertreten, 1950 malte Knoop einige Werke für den Film "Die Sünderin", 1954 Umzug nach Büsum, von 1963 bis 1965 wieder in Hamburg, 1956 Gründungsmitglied der Künstlervereinigung Gruppe 56 Schleswig-Holstein, Knoop wird der Verschollenen Generation zugerechnet, seine Frau war die Malerin und ehemalige Schülerin Margarete Knoop-Schellbach, Quelle: Vollmer, Saur „Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon“, Heydorn, „Der neue Rump“ und Wikipedia.

Painter and watercolourist (1888 Lütjenburg - 1966 Hamburg-Wellingsbüttel), initially trained as a carpenter, artistically self-taught, from 1922 member of the artist group "Die Barke" in Oldenburg, from 1928 freelance expressionist artist in Hamburg, Member of the Hamburg Secession, contact with Erich Hartmann, Willem Grimm, Karl Kluth and Fritz Kronenberg, in 1937 Knoop was struck off the list of visual artists and banned from exhibiting, emigrated to Belgrade and travelled to Yugoslavia and Greece, moved to Vienna in 1938, 1944 exhibition opening in Graz, which was closed by the Gestapo on the same day, 1946 return to Hohwacht, Amt Lütjenburg and resumption of painting, from 1949 represented at exhibitions in London, Manchester and Edinburgh, 1950 Knoop painted several works for the film "Die Sünderin", 1954 moved to Büsum, from 1963 to 1965 back in Hamburg, 1956 founding member of the artists' association Gruppe 56 Schleswig-Holstein, Knoop is attributed to the Lost Generation, his wife was the painter and former student Margarete Knoop-Schellbach, source: Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Heydorn, "Der neue Rump" and Wikipedia.
