VERY RARE GREEK-MAKEDONIAN ICON SHOWING THE BAPTISM OF CHRIST

As the icon specialist Bernhard Bornheim thankfully discovered, the icon can be geographically limited to the area from southern Albania to what is now northern Macedonia. The iconographic peculiarity, which can hardly be found on icons otherwise, is the personified spring spirits in the background, which spit water into the Jordan like an ancient fountain. The icon is also rich in iconographic details.
