В 60-е и 70-е годы Устинов был самым репертуарным детским драматургом, его пьесы «Бочка меда», «Остров пополам», «Великий лягушонок», «Недотрога» шли не только в России, но и в Греции, Америке, Африке. Многочисленные разноформатные цветные иллюстрации (в лист, в разворот и по краям листа) Ю. Селиверстова.
